Brisas de Gito (Breezes of the Gito)

I recently spent a month in the NW Colombian rainforest along the border between Choco and Risereldas provinces. My first WorkAway was arranged by Peter Wubena (http://www.workaway.info/335534286112-en.html), a Dutch expat living in Colombia for 33 years. I was asked to assist in developing a low impact educational tourism program with the Embera Chami and Afro Colombian communites.

This rain forest tropical paradise is 15 acres three hours by bus from the nearest bank, ATM, or wifi access. It is located between the communities of Santa Cecilia (9km) and Guarato (+2Km). This land was owned and deeded to the familyr and is now being developed by Anibal and hiswife as an ecologically low impact tourisn area with emphasis on sharing the Afro-Colombian and Embera-Chami indigenous cultures and identities.

Esta selva tropical es un paraíso de 15 acres tres horas en bus desde el banco más cercano, cajero automático, o el acceso wifi. Se encuentra entre las comunidades de Santa Cecilia (9km) y Guarato (+ 2 km). Esta tierra era propiedad y traspasada a la familyr y ahora está siendo desarrollado por Aníbal y hiswife como un área tourisn impacto ecológico bajo, con énfasis en el intercambio de las culturas e identidades indígenas y afrocolombianas Embera-Chami.

Anibal is known as a good friend to all he passes. He is extremely gregarious and displays quick comfort with strangers, even with different cultures and languages. He is highly resourceful, hard working and will do all he can to achieve his visions. He is extremely capable in a wide range of practical skills, considered a leader within the surrounding communities, and jest generally considered a man worthy of respect.

Mari, I believe, is of similar age to Anibal. When one spends time speaking with Mari, one quickly sees she is highly intelligent, well read and well informed. She is also very interested in learning about other cultures and how those may inform the decisions she makes in her daily life. She is very proud of her heritage and readily will share her life experience. She, as well as Anibal, know how to make guests comfortable and seems to anticipate any kind of desire in advance. She is an amazing cook, and as a lover of soup, I have truly enjoyed her Afro offerings. I have joked with her that she write an Afro-Colombian soups cookbook. She is so attuned to guest needs, she has begun planting new items in her garden that guests have mentioned.

The two youngest children who live at Brisas are extremely polite, hard working. Their oldest daughter lives in nearby Guarato.

Aníbal es conocido como un buen amigo para todo lo que pasa. Él es extremadamente sociable y muestra el confort rápida con extraños, incluso con diferentes culturas e idiomas. Mari, creo, es de edad similar a Anibal. Cuando uno pasa tiempo hablando con Mari, se ve rápidamente que ella es muy inteligente, culta y bien informado. Ella también está muy interesado en aprender sobre otras culturas y cómo los puede informar a las decisiones que toma en su vida diaria. Ella está muy orgullosa de su herencia y de fácil compartirá su experiencia de vida. Ella, al igual que Aníbal, saben cómo hacer que los huéspedes confortable y parece anticipar cualquier tipo de deseo por adelantado. Ella es una cocinera increíble, y como amante de la sopa, realmente he disfrutado sus ofertas afro. He bromeado con ella que escribir un libro de cocina sopas afrocolombiana. Ella es así que adaptado a las necesidades de los huéspedes, que ha comenzado la plantación de nuevos artículos en su jardín que han mencionado los huéspedes.

Brisas de Gito (Gi=Crab To=River) is a beautiful piece of land lying along the crystal clear Gito. To me, it is a tropical paradise, little humidity, never too warm or cool, very few biting bugs, an abundance of comestibles, beautiful butterflies, parrots and other birds, monkeys, flowers and medicinal plants.

The lay of Anibal's land is perfect as the middle part lies along a sharp bend in the river that offers both shallows and a deep crystalline pool. Across the river is a lovely waterfall that feeds into the pool in the river. After a gentle rise of less than two meters, the land breaks into a broad flat terrace of about 15 meters where lie covered cabanas where visitors can drink, listen to music and socialize before and after taking a swim. After another rise of several meters, we reach another broad flat area with an outdoor kitchen, the house of Anibal, a covered dining area, and then behind that another section being developed into an additional garden. A path running parallel to the river provides for an excellent location for relocation of the tent camp area. If you continue along the path, which rises about 20 feet over the river, we come to another broad open area large enough to ultimately develop four two person (I recommend two initially) cabins. The views of river and mountain are spectacular here, and the area provides tranquility at all times.

Behind this area lies the garden, which would separate the tourist cabins nicely from Peter's desired cabin location alongside the farther part beyond the river bend.

Entorno físico

Brisas de Gito (Gi = cangrejo Para = río) es una hermosa pieza de tierra situada a lo largo de las aguas cristalinas del Gito. Para mí, es un paraíso tropical, poca humedad, nunca demasiado caliente o frío, muy pocos insectos que pican, una gran cantidad de productos comestibles, hermosas mariposas, loros y otras aves, monos, flores y plantas medicinales.

El relieve el terreno de Aníbal es perfecto como la parte media se encuentra a lo largo de una curva cerrada en el río que ofrece tanto a aguas poco profundas y una piscina cristalina profunda. Al otro lado del río es una hermosa cascada que desemboca en la piscina en el río. Después de una suave elevación de menos de dos metros, se rompe la tierra en una amplia terraza plana de unos 15 metros donde reposan cubierta cabañas donde los visitantes pueden copa, escuchar música y socializar antes y después de tomar un baño. Después de otra subida de varios metros, se llega a otra amplia área plana con una cocina al aire libre, la casa de Aníbal, un comedor cubierto, y luego detrás de esa otra sección que se están desarrollando en un jardín adicional. Un camino paralelo al río ofrece una excelente ubicación para la reubicación de la zona de campo de la tienda. Si continúa a lo largo del camino, que se eleva a unos 20 pies sobre el río, llegamos a otra área amplia abierta suficientemente grande como para desarrollar en última instancia, de cuatro para dos personas (recomiendo dos cabinas inicialmente). Las vistas del río y la montaña son espectaculares aquí, y la zona ofrece la tranquilidad en todo momento.

Detrás de esta zona se encuentra el jardín, que separaría a las cabañas turísticas muy bien desde la ubicación deseada en el habitáculo de Pedro junto a la parte más allá de la curva del río.

This is a wonderful place to stay for 3 to 7 days. It is for the adventurous traveller who is not afraid to be in a remore location. To truly get the most out of the experience, ones physical condition will come into consideration. At this point, there are only tent platforms with tent available to rent. Outdoor bathroom is available, and a self cook area, or purchase your prepared food at a daily rate. I bathed in the crystal clear river every day. Make certain to have sufficien Colombian pesos for your stay as the nearest cash machine is three hours by bus. There is a Western Union in Santa Cecilia. Este es un lugar maravilloso para alojarse durante 3 a 7 días. Es para el viajero aventurero que no tiene miedo de estar en un lugar remore. Para conseguir realmente el máximo provecho de la experiencia, las condiciones físicas entrarán en consideración.
